A fine two-column print by Jean Petit.
The "Catena aurea" was commissioned by Pope Urban IV from Thomas Aquinas in 1262/1263.
It is a collection of exegetical quotations from the Church Fathers in the form of a continuous commentary on the Gospel texts.
Even Thomas's contemporaries recognized the value of this work, which later received the title "Golden Chain."
Title page with a handwritten, 14-line ownership inscription by "Colleg. Paul 1830" and a handwritten, 1-line ownership inscription by "F. Conrad Glandorff."
