First edition with Vellutello's commentary (missing here),
sought after primarily for its beautiful woodcuts.

These are praised by Volkmann (Iconographia Dantesca 72 f.) as the first modern illustrations of the Divine Comedy.

They were probably created by the printer Marcolini himself, an outstanding woodcutter and a friend of Titian and Sansovino.

- The first three quires (AA-8, BB-8, CC-10) with Vellutello's commentary are missing.

Occasional faded dampstains, some period marginalia.

First woodcut repaired, handwritten short title inserted in place of the missing title leaf.
