Text in Latin
=================================================
Claudius Ptolemy (in Latin Claudius Ptolemaeus), commonly known as Ptolemy (Ptolemy of Thebes (Upper Egypt)), was born around 100 and died around 168 in Canopus.
He was a Greek astronomer, astrologer, mathematician, and geographer who lived in Alexandria (Egypt).
He is also one of the precursors of geography. His life is poorly documented. His cognomen Ptolemaeus seems to indicate Greco-Egyptian origins, and his nomen Claudius indicates Roman citizenship.

Ptolemy is the author of several scientific treaties, two of which had a great influence on Western and Eastern sciences. One is the treatise on astronomy, now known as the Almagest, and the other is Geography, which is a synthesis of the geographical knowledge of the Greco-Roman world.
