Francesco Guicciardini was born in Florence in 1483 and died in 1540.
A diplomat, historian, and statesman, he served the Florentine Republic and the Medici papacy under Leo X and Clement VII.
He directly participated in the events of the Wars of Italy and developed a political vision grounded in realism, diplomatic prudence, and distrust of grand abstract ideals.
La Historia d’Italia is regarded as one of the supreme masterpieces of Renaissance European historiography.

The History of Italy is a historiographical work by the Florentine Francesco Guicciardini , a doctor of laws and politician in the service of the Medici popes Leo X and Clement VII . Written between 1537 and 1540 , the work consists of twenty books and narrates the events that occurred between 1492 (the year of the death of Lorenzo the Magnificent ) and 1534 (the year of the death of Pope Clement VII ).
