Rare illustrated sixteenth-century Venetian edition of the complete works of the poet from Venosa, the most famous Roman poet of the 1st century BC.
The work contains the three books of the Odes (Carmina) dedicated to Maecenas, the Book of Epodes also dedicated to Maecenas, the Carmen Saeculare, the renowned composition Ars Poetica, the two books of Satires (Sermonum), and the two books of Epistles.
19th century half-leather over marbled boards, gilt title to the spine
Large woodcut printer's mark on the frontispiece depicting a woman (Minerva) with a helmet, spear and shield riding a lion.
Another smaller printer's mark at the colophon.
Illustrated with beautiful vignette depicting a scholar at a desk repeated eleven times in the text.
Many graceful initial letters illustrated with vignettes.

Restoration of the last leaf. Some wear of binding.
Otherwise very good condition.
