first complete Latin Bible printed in England
Tremellius (1510-1580), an Italian Jewish convert, was invited to England by Thomas Cranmer in 1547 and was appointed Regius Professor of Hebrew at Cambridge in 1549.
This translation was completed with the help of his son-in-law, Franciscus Junius the Elder (1545-1602), and was long considered the most accurate Latin rendering among the reformers both in England and on the continent.
