At the end of the 16th century, there was great interest in publishing the works of the Greek Fathers, including John Chrysostom, often driven by the Catholic Counter-Reformation effort to strengthen doctrine through patristic sources.
In this era, Chrysostom’s works were frequently printed in centers such as Venice, Paris, Basel, or Antwerp. It contains homilies on biblical books (Gospels of Matthew or John, the Pauline Epistles) and on moral and ascetic topics.
