He began his academic career teaching civil law at the universities of Pavia , Padua , Ferrara and Bologna. Among his students was Bulgarino Bulgarini and he entered into relations with famous jurists such as Giason del Maino and Bartolomeo Socino . Tartagni obtained Bolognese citizenship from Cardinal Bessarione and was elected magistrate in the same city.Considered the last of the scholastic current, he commented on the Digest and the Justinian Code , publishing a series of Consilia in seven volumes, containing opinions on civil and canon law .
