Index Rerum Omnium quae in Aristotelis operibus continentur

(The Absolutely Complete Index of All Things Contained in Aristotle's Works)

Venice, at Nicolaus Morettus; 1585

Original limp vellum, manuscript title to the spine

Some occasional period underlining and annotations.
One leaf damaged

Otherwise very good interior.  Some soiling of the binding

Thematic and alphabetical index of Aristotelian doctrine.

It is an index that is “absolutely complete” (absolutissimus) that gathers the entire varied and admirable doctrine of Aristotle, usually spread across the various volumes of his complete works (Opera Omnia), synthesizing and arranging it alphabetically by “places of common” (locos communes).

In the 16th century, editions of Aristotle's works were often accompanied by a separate index volume to facilitate thematic search, given the vastness of the Aristotelian corpus.

The 1585 edition sits within the tradition of the great Venetian and Lyonese prints (often linked to the heirs of Iunta) that spread Aristotelian thought with detailed commentaries and indexes.

The work is structured to be an encyclopedic dictionary of Aristotelian concepts, facilitating access to topics such as physics, metaphysics, ethics, and logic.
