Anutius Foesius (1528–1595), a physician trained in Paris and later active in his native Metz, combined clinical practice with intense classical scholarship, dedicating himself with philological rigor to the Hippocratic corpus. The refined medallion portrait of the author, engraved by Pierre Woeiriot (ca. 1531–ca. 1589), appears exclusively in early editions.
