De iuribus et privilegiis fisci libri septem.

Venetiis: apud Paulum Meietum Bibliopolam Patavinum; 1590

(TAXATION, CONFISCATION AND PRIVATE PROPERTY IN TAX LAW)

An important 1590 Venetian edition of the seminal De iuribus et privilegiis fisci by Marco Antonio Pellegrini, a Paduan jurist and tax lawyer, dedicated to the privileged legal position of the fiscus and the relationship between public property and private property.
Divided into seven books, the treatise systematically addresses topics such as taxation, tax credits, inheritances, vacant assets, confiscation, procedural privileges of the treasury, and cases in which an individual's assets could be transferred to the State.
The work was born directly from the author's practical experience at the Padua Chamber of Deputies and thus combines Roman law doctrine with the concrete application of tax law in the Republic of Venice.

The first edition appeared in 1587 and quickly gained new popularity, a testament to the interest it aroused in European legal circles.
This 1590 Venetian edition, printed by Paolo Meietti, is presented in a  folio format, with a title page printed in red and black, a large woodcut printer's device, and Latin text arranged in two columns.

Original limp vellum binding, manuscript title to the spine.

=============================
Marco Antonio Pellegrini, Latinized Marcus Antonius Peregrinus (1530-1616), was one of the most authoritative Venetian jurists between the second half of the 16th and the beginning of the 17th century. Trained in the environment of the great Paduan legal school, he developed a vast professional and doctrinal activity, dealing above all with fiscal law, successions, wills and patrimonial questions. He held important public positions within the Republic of Venice and was a fiscal lawyer of the Chamber of Padua, an experience which directly influenced the content of De iuribus et privilegiis fisci. The treatise was born from the encounter between the Roman tradition and the practical administration of tax rights. Pellegrini approached the issues not only theoretically but also from a highly applied perspective, discussing cases in which fiscal interests, creditors' rights, inheritance, and private property conflicted. His work enjoyed considerable editorial success between the 16th and 17th centuries, and De iuribus et privilegiis fisci was reprinted and subsequently expanded, evidence of the work's enduring usefulness in European legal practice
