Benedictus Aretius (surname derived from Marti by Greek translation) (1505–1574) was a Swiss Protestant theologian, Protestant reformer and natural philosopher.
"as one of the first Reformed, in his main encyclopaedic work (Theologiae problemata, Geneva 1573) advocated the establishment of church peace with the Lutherans, on the basis of agreement on the things necessary for salvation Articles of Faith while maintaining diversity of rites Aretius also published commentaries on the Old and New Testaments and on Pindar, as well as astronomical, his second place of work next to Bern.
Because of the trade in diatribes against the Catholic Church at the fair in Zurzach, Le Preux was pilloried, flogged and banished.
