Johannes Pistorius

Ein Stück vom Wort Gottes:

Cologne: Arnold Quentel; 1596

Text discussed fourteen disputed points in religion, between Catholics on one side and Lutherans and Calvinists on the other, focusing on the "pure word of God"

Half vellum over marbled boards, spine with raised bands and manuscript label.

Toning, a couple of leaves frayed, good otherwise

This work by Johannes Pistorius is a razor-sharp defense in which he argues that the Catholic Church has the full right to administer the communion to laypeople in a single form (only the host). He tries to show that this practice is scripturally justified as well as rooted in the ancient tradition of the early Christian Church, in order to rebut the criticisms of Lutherans and Calvinists.
The text ends with a sharp personal attack on Martin Luther, whom Pistorius portrays as an unreliable “weathercock” who would have continually contradicted his positions on this matter.
