Jan van Heurne was a Dutch physician who studied in Paris under Duret and the renowned Ramus (Pierre de la Ramée).
He then visited Italy where he met Capivaccio, Mercuriali, Guilandini, and the famous Fabrizio d'Acquenpendente.
(New Universal Biography from the Earliest Times)
"It is in the Dialectica that one finds the exposition of the Ramist 'method,' unique and universal, presented by its inventor not as a philosophical system, but as 'a direct and easy art of teaching,' illuminated by 'the highest light of reason,' according to a descending dialectic, inspired by the Platonic allegory of the cave, even if, little by little, Aristotle becomes more present, as a support for a construction nevertheless founded on a break with post-medieval Aristotelianism." (A. Coron, In French in the Text 51).
The Protestant Pierre de La Ramée (1515-1572) was one of the victims of the St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre.
