The edition of his complete works by Paul Estienne in 1604 in Geneva made it possible to save and transmit a vast corpus of texts by Aelius Aristide, some of which were previously unpublished or incomplete. His speeches offer valuable testimony to the rhetoric and intellectual life of the 2nd century.Paul Estienne carried out meticulous editing work based on a Greek text recomposed from reliable sources, and using elegant Greek typography, which he places alongside the Latin translation of Willem Canter (1542-1575), in a two-column layout. This reference edition sparked renewed interest in Aelius Aristide among humanists and scholars.
