This treatise is illustrated with 26 engraved portraits, depicting perfection, degeneration, the criminal, the passionate, etc. This work is analyzed in an article by Dr. A. de Neuville "Un précurseur de Lombroso au XVIIe siecle", La Revue des revues, June 15, 1896, pp. 508 et seq.: "an extremely interesting little volume, as much for the graphic part as for the text, which deals with the symptomatological and diagnostic value of the forehead and eyes for the knowledge of man's character and intellectual and affective aptitudes, based on a large number of observations. This little volume, which is not cited in any catalog, nor mentioned in medical or scientific literature, is a true bibliographical rarity."
