Geographia Universalis, Vetus et Nova is a 16th-century edition of Claudius Ptolemy's ancient geographic treatise, edited by the scholar Sebastian Münster and first published in Basel in 1440 (famously printed in 1540 and later 1545).
It combines classical 2nd-century coordinates with modern regional maps
Written by Claudius Ptolemy in Alexandria around AD 150 as a masterwork on cartography.
Translated into Latin by Willibald Pirckheimer and edited with extensive updates by Sebastian Münster.
Served as a foundational bridge linking ancient geographical concepts to Renaissance mapmaking expansion.
