Religious text by Georg Vogler (ca. 1664), which is intended to provide comfort ("Trostbronn") – especially dedicated to Mary and Joseph, for the afflicted, sick, dying, prisoners and even criminals ("Malefitz personen"), with contents such as reading aloud, encouragement, admonition, prayers and the aim of comforting, strengthening and uplifting. 

A spiritual guide to comfort and edification, intended to provide solace through readings, encouragement, exhortations and prayers, especially in difficult times and for the marginalized members of society.


With copperplate title and 6 woodblock prints.

14 leaves, 1055 pp., 5 leaves.

Original blind-tooled pigskin binding over wooden boards with 2 intact clasps.
Spine with raised bands.

 Georg Vogler (1585-1635) from Engen on the Danube worked longest in Würzburg, where he held a professorship at the university.
"His works reveal Vogler as a man whose inclination was more devoted to active pastoral care than to his academic teaching.
Besides pilgrimage booklets for pilgrims to Walldurn and Retzbach in Franconia, it is especially his frequently reprinted 'Trostbronn Maria und Joseph' (Brine of Consolation, Mary and Joseph)."
