[Borlase, Edmund.]

THE HISTORY OF THE EXECRABLE IRISH REBELLION TRAC'D FROM MANY PRECEDING ACTS,
TO THE GRAND ERUPTION THE 23. OF OCTOBER, 1641.

London: for Henry Brome, Robert Clavel, and Richard Chiswell; 1680

Folio.
Size 9 by 14 inches

[34], 327, [1], 138, [14] pp., including errata leaf and with one folding table.

Original calf boards rebacked, both boards with gilt crest of the Society of Writers to the Signet.

Borlase's highly biased and polemical account of the Irish Rebellion of 1641. He frames the rebellion as justification for the 1662 Act of Settlement, which redistributed Irish land from Catholic landowners to Protestant settlers. The present is an exceptionally large copy of this work, with wide margins; early ink signature and engraved bookplate of Edward Place.

Boards with some light scuffs, some chipping to edges and with corners restored.
Some occasional foxing (mostly marginal, worst being the title-page) and a few instances of minor soiling or stains,
title with tissue repair along front margin (verso) and with author's name inked near center,
a few small marginal chips (no loss of text).

Very Good.
