===============================
Louis Maimbourg's The History of the League is a historical account of the French Wars of Religion, specifically focusing on the Catholic League formed during that period.
Published in French in 1683, it was translated into English by John Dryden in 1684 at the request of King Charles II,
and the translation was published in London by M. Flesher for Jacob Tonson.

The book covers the French Wars of Religion (1562-1598), with a particular emphasis on the Catholic League.
Author: Louis Maimbourg (1610-1686) was a French Jesuit known for his historical works.

John Dryden (1631-1700), a prominent English poet, critic, and playwright, translated the work into English.
Historical Context: Dryden reportedly used Maimbourg's work as a commentary on religious persecutions in England during his own time.
