The editors Limborch and Hartsoeker intended these letters to demonstrate the orthodoxy of the Remontrant movement."J. Arminius (1560 - 1609), minister of the Reformed Church in the Netherlands, opposed the severity of the Calvinist doctrine of predestination, preferring the idea of conditional election.
