Text in English

First edition of this widely cited biography of Matthew Parker—chaplain to Anne Boleyn, architect of the Bishops' Bible, and critically important book collector.
As one of England's most active reformers, Parker diligently sought in early manuscripts evidence that the English church had long ago operated independently of Rome.
This work culminated in a peerless collection of Anglo-Saxon manuscripts, which today rests at the eponymous Parker Library of Corpus Christi College, Cambridge.
