"Petit was the leading French surgeon of the early eighteenth century and the first director of the Académie de Chirurgie in Paris. It is in this work that he gave the first account of osteomalacia and of clot formation in arteries following ligation" (Heirs of Hippocrates 776, ed. 1784).


- Partly water- and foxing-stained, 1 folding plate with a repaired tear. Signs of use. -


Original leather bindings. Spine with raised bands, richly gilt. Marbled endpapers.

Some occasional stains, one of the spines cracked, some wear
