- Moyriac de Mailla (1669-1748) was sent as a missionary to China in 1701.
His knowledge of the Manchurian language enabled him to translate the Tongjian gangmu into French.
The translation was completed in 1730 and sent to France in 1737; However, it remained in the library of the Lyon College for 30 years until the manuscript was published by Abbe Grosier (1743-1823).
