Li PAESI BASSI AUSTRIACI

(AUSTRIAN NETHERLANDS)

The Austrian Netherlands (also called Austrian Belgium or the Southern Netherlands ) was the residual state of the Province of Burgundy from 1714 to 1795.
The state began with the acquisition of the territory by the Habsburg Monarchy under the Treaty of Rastatt in 1714 and lasted until its annexation after the Battle of Sprimont in 1794 and the Peace of Basel in 1795. Austria, however, did not renounce its claims to the province until the Treaty of Campo Formio in 1797.
The Austrian Netherlands was a discontinuous territory comprising the area of ??present-day western Belgium and much of Luxembourg , divided by the Prince-Bishopric of Liège .
