======================================================
Francois Fenelon's controversial novel. Written to fill a time gap in Homer's 'Odyssey', the tale follows Odysseus' son Telemachus and his tutor, Mentor, actually the goddess Minerva in disguise.
Fenelon (1651-1715) was Archbishop of Cambrai in France, and was tutor to Louis XIV's grandson Duc de Bourgogne, and upon its anonymous publication in 1699, the novel was immediately recognised as being an attack on the autocracy, rejecting warfare and luxury for a simple, pastoral life of peace, honesty and brethrenship.
