In the Circuit Court of the United States, held at the city of Richmond, in the district of Virginia, in the Summer Term of the year 1807. To which is added, an appendix, containing the arguments and evidence in support and defence of the motion afterwards made by the counsel for the United States, to commit A. Burr, H. Blennerhassett, and I. Smith, to be sent for trial to the state of Kentucky, for treason or misdemeanor, alleged to be committed there.

At this trial Burr was acquitted of the charges of treason arising from revelations of a conspiracy involving the western states passed to President Jefferson by General James Wilkinson who had been involved;
Burr (1756-1836), Jefferson's vice-president, 1801-1805, had been dropped from the 1804 ticket and had killed Alexander Hamilton in a dual in 1805, moving west in an attempt to revive his fortunes, then, following the trial, to Europe for a period of four years, returning to New York for a somewhat quieter life before his death.
