Each episode is accompanied by so-called "edifying" explanations, aiming to draw out a moral, spiritual or doctrinal lesson applicable to the Christian life.

The author emphasizes the coherence of the biblical narrative and the continuity between the two Testaments, presented as two parts of the same salvation story
