On June 12th, 1859, the British passenger ship ALMA, built in 1855 by John Laird Son & Co. and owned by Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Co., on voyage from Aden to Suez, was wrecked on the Moorshedgerah Reef, 4 miles east of the little Harnish (Hanish) Island, Red Sea.
