========================================
Curtis (1850-1911), who came to Türkiye as a correspondent for the Chicago Record-Herald, traveled to Turkey's lost territories, including Serbia, Bosnia, Greece, and Bulgaria, and shared his observations.
In the introduction to the book, he cited the ideas of German General Moltke, who served in Turkey as a military advisor between 1836 and 1839, stating that it was inevitable that European Christian powers would impose political, economic, and moral obligations on the Turks and that a world war would take place within the walls of Istanbul.
Written to enlighten the American public, the work first describes the political climate in the Ottoman capital, the structure of the regime of Abdulhamid II, and American educational institutions in the country.
Later, by discussing the buffer states established in the Balkans and the political future of the Balkan Peninsula, Curtis, in a sense, captured the Balkans' image.
